Igdm Ransomware

Cybercriminals show no slowing down when it comes to churning out more and more ransomware variants based on the infamous STOP/DJVU family of threats. One of the latest being discovered in the wild by infosec researchers is called the Igdm Ransomware. It doesn't display any major deviations from the rest of the variants from the family, but that does not diminish its destructive capabilities.

Once inside the targeted user's computer, the Igdm Ransomware wastes no time to initiate its encryption process that affects nearly all widely used filetypes - MS Office documents, PDFs, video, audio, photos, databases, etc. Victims will no longer be capable to access the files affected by the threat. A new extension - '.igdm' will be appended to the original names of every encrypted file. At the same time, the threat will drop its ransom note containing instructions for the victims. The note will be delivered in the form of text files named '_readme.txt' that will be created in every folder with encrypted data.

According to the note, the ransom that the criminals demand to receive in exchange for the decryption key and tool in their possession is exactly $980. They offer to slash that price in half to $490, but only if the victims contact them within the first 72 hours following the ransomware infection. For that purpose, the hackers provide two email addresses - the main one is 'helpmanager@mail.ch' while 'restoremanager@airmail.cc' acts as a reserve address. A single file that contains no valuable information can be attached to the email message to be decrypted for free.

The full set of instructions delivered by the Igdm Ransomware is:
