Threat Database Ransomware Hudf Ransomware

Hudf Ransomware

The Hudf Ransomware is the newest member of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family, which already features such crypto viruses as Mljx, Yjqs, and Shgv, to name but a few. The latest threat from the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family bears its name from the ".hudf" extension it appends to each encrypted file on the victim’s computer. Speaking of encryption itself, the Hudf Ransomware applies a combination of RSA and AES algorithms to render your files inaccessible until you pay the ransom.

Hudf infects a wide range of file types – multimedia, text, photos; you name it. Once it has completed the encryption process, Hudf draws up the ransom note and places it in every folder containing encrypted data. The note says:

We strongly recommend that you avoid paying the ransom at any cost. The crooks behind the Hudf Ransomware will demand $980.00 in exchange for a decryption key. They may or may not decide to give you that tool. If you pay, you risk losing your data AND your money, too!

Like other ransomware threats we've covered recently, the Hudf Ransomware uses conventional infection vectors to reach your PC – spam emails, suspicious-looking web links, false software updates, etc. They all hide a corrupted component, URL or code.
