Hruu Ransomware
The Hruu Ransomware may be a variant from the STOP/Djvu malware family, but that doesn't make it any less harmful as a threat. Indeed, the systems infected by Hruu will be subjected to an encryption routine that will leave most of the files stored there in a completely unusable state. Victims will no longer be able to access any of their documents, PDFs, databases, archives, photos and other file types.
All encrypted files will be marked by having '.hruu' appended to their original file names. In addition, the threat will create a new text file on the breached device. Named '_readme.txt,' the role of this file is to deliver a set of instructions from the attackers.
Ransom Note's Details
The ransom note presented by the Hruu Ransomware follows the typical STOP/Djvu template. It states that victims of the threat must pay a ransom of $980 if they want to receive the decryption key and software tool from the hackers. However, if the users initiate communication within the first 72 hours of the attack, they would receive preferential terms by having the sum of the ransom reduced by 50% to $490.
To do so, users are expected to contact one of the two email addresses and a Telegram account mentioned in the ransom note - 'restorealldata@firemail.cc,' 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch,' and '@datarestore.' As part of their message, users are told that they can attach a single encrypted file to supposedly be unlocked for free.
The full message left by Hruu Ransomware is:
'ATTENTION!
Don't worry, you can return all your files!
All your files like photos, databases, documents and other important are encrypted with strongest encryption and unique key.
The only method of recovering files is to purchase decrypt tool and unique key for you.
