Hhyu Ransomware

Cybersecurity researchers have confirmed that the Hhyu Ransomware threat is a variant belonging to the STOP/Djvu malware family. Although the threat lacks any significant improvements when compared to the numerous other variants of this family, its capacity to cause damage should not be underestimated. When executed on a breached device, the Hhyu Ransomware will target most of the data stored there and lock it with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm.

Victims will no longer be able to use or open nearly all of their documents, PDFs, photos, archives, databases and more. In addition, each encrypted file will have '.hhyu' added to its original name. When all targeted file types have been processed, the malware will proceed to deliver a ransom note with instructions from the cybercriminals. The note will be dropped on the system as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

Hhyu Ransomware's victims are told that they will have to pay $980 as ransom. However, those that contact the hackers within 72 hours will receive preferential terms and will supposedly only have to pay half of that initial sum. Two email addresses are mentioned in the note as potential communication channels - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.' Of course, contacting cybercriminals is strongly discouraged, as doing so could expose users to additional privacy and security risks.
