Hhye Ransomware

The infamous STOP/Djvu Ransomware family continues to be used by cybercriminals as a source for the creation of more ransomware threats. One such variant discovered by infosec researchers is the Hhye Ransomware. Despite the threat being mostly identical to all the other STOP/Djvu variants that doesn't make it any less threatening. If executed on a targeted device, the malware will activate an encryption routine that will leave the vast majority of the victim's data in an unusable state.

When locking a file, the threat also will mark it by appending '.hhye' to the file's original name. Affected users also will notice the presence of an unfamiliar text file named '_readme.txt' on the breached device. Inside this file is a ransom note detailing the instructions left by the threat's operators.

According to the ransom-demanding message, the attackers are trying to extort the sum of $980 from their victims. In exchange for the ransom, they promise to provide the decryption keys and software tool necessary to restore the locked data. Users who establish contact within 72 hours of the attack will supposedly receive preferential terms and will only have to pay 50% of the initial ransom. The hackers also state that a single file can be attached to the message to be decrypted for free. Victims of Hhye Ransomware can send a message to the two email addresses found in the note - 'restorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch,' or a Telegram account at '@datarestore'

The full text of the ransom note left by the threat is:
