Hheo Ransomware

The infamous STOP/Djvu Ransomware family continues to be used by cybercriminals as a source for the creation of more malware threats. The Hheo Ransomware is exactly such a variant that can lock users out of their own data. The threat will encrypt most of the files found on the breached computers and append '.hheo' to their names. The hackers will then use the locked files as leverage to extort money from their victims.

The Hheo Ransomware also creates a text file named '_readme.txt' on the infected device. The file contains a detailed ransom note with the demands of the cybercriminals. Victims of the Hheo Ransomware, like victims of other variants from the STOP/Djvu family, are told that they will need to pay a ransom of $980. In exchange for the money, the hackers promise to send back the necessary decryption keys and a decryptor software tool. Users who establish contact with the ransomware's operators within the first 72 hours will supposedly have to pay half of that amount.

According to the note, the only way to reach the hackers is to send a message to their email addresses at 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.' However, communication with cybercriminals should be avoided, as users risk exposing themselves to additional security or privacy risks.
