Hgsh Ransomware

The infosec community has identified a new threatening variant belonging to the non-stop growing STOP/Djvu malware family. It appears that cybercriminals are still using STOP/Djvu to create more ransomware threats. The new malware is tracked as Hgsh Ransomware and is capable of encrypting a wide range of different file types. Victims of the threat will no longer be able to access or use their documents, images, pictures, archives, databases, etc.

All locked files will be marked by having '.hgsh' appended to their original names as a new extension. When the threat has completed its encryption process, it will proceed to deliver a ransom note with instructions to the compromised computer system. The ransom-demanding message will be placed inside a newly-created text file named '_readme.txt.'

Demands Overview

The instructions left by the attackers responsible for unleashing Hgsh Ransomware are largely consistent with those dropped by other STOP/Djvu variants. The price of the ransom is still mentioned to be $980. If the note can be trusted, victims have the opportunity to cut that price in half to $490. Apparently, the only requirement is to contact the cybercriminals within 72 hours of the Hgsh Ransomware attack. The hackers also offer to unlock one file for free. The chosen file should not contain any important data. Hgsh Ransomware's note mentions two email addresses that can be used to communicate with the hackers - 'manager@mailtemp.ch' and 'helprestoremanager@airmail.cc.'
