Hfgd Ransomware

The prolific STOP/Djvu Ransomware family appears to still be a popular choice among the creators of harmful threats. Indeed, cybersecurity researchers are finding new variants from this malware family to be used in attack campaigns. The Hfgd Ransomware is exactly such a threat. It has little to differentiate itself from the numerous other variants but that in no way makes it a less potent threat.

Computers infected by the Hfgd Ransomware will be severely impacted. Victims will lose access to vast amounts of the data stored on the breached device due to data encryption. The locked files will be marked via the addition of '.hfgd' to their original names. A ransom note with instructions from the attackers also will be left on the compromised systems. The note will be placed inside a newly created text file named '_readme.txt.'

The note shows that the demands of the attackers are largely consistent with the rest of the STOP/Djvu threats. Victims are told that if they want to restore their files, they will need to pay a ransom of $980. In exchange for that sum, the hackers will supposedly send back a software tool and the required decryption key. The usual offer to reduce the amount of the ransom by half is also present. If the note can be believed, all that users need to do is contact the hackers within 72 hours of the Hfgd Ransomware attack. Two email addresses can be used for the purpose - 'support@sysmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.'
