HDLocker Ransomware

The HDLocker Ransomware is a malware threat that appears to be targeting Chinese computer users predominantly. There is nothing, however, that prevents this potent malware from infecting users from other countries and continents. Once inside the user's computer, HDLcoker deploys an encryption routine that affects a wide range of filetypes. Users will find themselves unable to either access or execute any of their private or business-related files suddenly. The threat marks every file it encrypted by appending '_HD' to its original file extension.

The ransom note delivered by the HDLocker Ransomware is displayed in a pop-up window. It contains a brief message written in Chinese entirely accompanied by a pixelated cartoon image. It is strongly discouraged for victims of ransomware attacks to enter negotiations with the cybercriminals as this could expose them to further security risks. Not to mention that there are no guarantees that the hackers will honor their end of the deal. In many cases, they simply take the money and move on to their next threatening project without providing their victims with the decryption key necessary for the restoration of the locked data. Quite often, even if hackers do send the decryption key and software tool, they are still unable to return all of the affected files to their previous state.
