Hajd Ransomware

Cybersecurity researchers have been able to uncover another STOP/Djvu Ransomware variant, that cybercriminals can leverage in attack campaigns against users' computers. The threat is being tracked as the Hajd Ransomware, based on the unique file extension it uses to mark each encrypted file - '.hajd.'

Although the threat does not exhibit any meaningful improvements or modifications over the rest of the STOP/Djvu variants, it still retains a significant capacity to cause damage. Indeed, each breached device will be subjected to a data-encryption routine that will leave the photos, images, documents, PDFs, archived, databases, and many other file types completely unusable. Victims will be left with a ransom note delivered as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Details

The instructions dropped by the Hajd Ransomware follow the pattern expected from a variant of this family. The cybercriminals state that they want to be paid a ransom of $980 before they are willing to assist their victims in recovering the locked files. However, that initial sum could potentially be cut down by 50% to $490. According to the note, the only requirement is for the affected users to contact the hackers within 72 hours of the Hajd Ransomware attack. Apparently, victims also are allowed to send one encrypted file to be unlocked for free. They can do so by messaging the two emails found in the ransom-demanding message - 'support@sysmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.'
