Gujd Ransomware

Countless variants based on the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family have already been unleashed against computer users. Cybercriminals, however, are still churning out more and more. The Gujd Ransomware is exactly such a variant that apart from the extension it uses to mark encrypted files has little to no distinguishing features. Still, users shouldn't underestimate the amount of damage that the Gujd Ransomware can cause if it breaches their devices successfully.

This variant of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware will initiate an encryption algorithm employing an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm. As a result, nearly all files stored on the compromised system will become inaccessible and unusable. The hackers will then demand to be paid a ransom in exchange for the decryption key and tool that could potentially restore the locked data.

Users affected by the threat will notice that their files have '.gujd' appended to their original names as a new extension suddenly. Then, upon completing its encryption programming, the Gujd Ransomware will deliver a ransom note with instructions. The message from the hackers will be placed inside a newly generated text file named '_readme.txt.'

According to the note, the cybercriminals behind Gujd Ransomware want to receive exactly $980 if they are to help their victims. If affected users send a message within the first 72 hours, however, the hackers promise to cut the price down to $490. Two email addresses are mentioned in the note as ways to initiate contact - 'manager@mailtemp.ch' and 'helpmanager@airmail.cc.' As part of the email, victims can attach a single file that will supposedly be decrypted for free and returned.
