Despite its name, the Gomusic.info website has nothing to do with music. In fact, it is almost entirely empty with the only displayed content being various deceptive and misleading messages. The Internet has been flooded with hoax pages that are virtually indistinguishable from one another. These sites rely on fake scenarios to lure users into subscribing to their push notification services.
The crux of the scheme is to convince visitors into clicking the shown 'Allow' button without them realizing that doing so will activate the page's push notifications. The most widely encountered method, and one that Gomusic.info has been observed to employ as well, involves pretending to be doing a CAPTCHA check. The con page may show an image of a robot and a message similar to:
'Click Allow if you are not a robot'
Users who follow the instructions and click the button will grant several important browser permissions to the page. Gomusic.info will promptly proceed to exploit these permissions to deliver dubious, intrusive, and annoying advertisements to the system. When dealing with advertisements generated by unfamiliar sources, users should always be careful.
The advertisements could be promoting questionable third-party websites, suspicious adult pages, online game platforms, phishing pages, etc. Users could also be presented with enticing offers to install seemingly useful software products that turn out to be equipped with intrusive adware and browser hijacker functionalities.
