Gofenews.com is another deceptive page that has been created with the sole purpose of running a popular browser-based tactic. Exactly like the countless other websites of this type, it relies on misleading messages in an attempt to lure visitors into subscribing to its push notification services. If successful, Gofenews.com will then abuse its browser privileges to run an intrusive ad campaign.
Users who land on the site may be presented with a fake video player window accompanied by a message similar to:
'Press 'Allow', to watch video'
Other popular scenarios employed by these con websites include pretending to be carrying out a CAPTCHA check or stating that a file is now ready for download.
No matter what the exact messages say, users should, in no case, follow the instructions and press the Allow button. After all, the advertisements delivered by such unproven and shady sources are more than likely to be untrustworthy equally. They may rely on similar clickbait techniques and then redirect the user to other, different websites, phishing pages, sites that spread PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), etc.
