Ggyu Ransomware

The Ggyu Ransomware threat is a variant belonging to the infamous STOP/Djvu malware family. Despite lacking any significant improvements, the Ggyu threat has retained the destructive capabilities of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family, and its potential impact on the infected systems should not be underestimated. The attackers can activate the malware and lock a vast amount of data. All targeted file types will be encrypted and rendered inaccessible.

In addition, the threat will mark each locked file by adding '.ggyu' to that file's original name. Victims of the malware will be left with a ransom note contained inside a newly created text file named '_readme.txt.' The note states that the operators of the threat demand a ransom of $980. However, users who establish contact within 72 hours, will supposedly have to pay only half of that amount.

Apparently, the hackers also are willing to decrypt a single file for free. Victims can send the file alongside their message to two email addresses found in the note. The main one is 'support@bestyourmail.ch' while 'supportsys@airmail.cc' is described as a reserve email. Of course, victims of malware attacks should avoid any communication with cybercriminals. Otherwise, users could be exposing themselves to even more privacy and security risks.
