Ggew Ransomware

Threat actors have created yet another potent malware based on the prolific STOP/Djvu Ransomware family. The threat named the Ggew Ransomware is mostly identical to the numerous other variants of the STOP/Djvu family, but that doesn't diminish its capacity to cause damage. Once executed on the breached devices, the Ggew Ransomware will encrypt most of the data stored there. Victims will lose access to their documents, PDFs, archives, databases and more. Each affected file will have '.ggew' appended to its name.

The ransom note of the threat will be dropped on the infected device as a text file named '_readme.txt.' According to the instructions left by the attackers, they demand to receive a ransom of exactly $980. However, users that contact them within 72 hours will receive preferential terms and will have to pay 50% less. The cybercriminals also express their willingness to unlock one file for free. The note provides two email addresses that can be used for this purpose - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.'

Of course, there are no guarantees that ransomware operators will fulfill their promises. The hackers could simply take the money and move on to their next threatening campaign. Furthermore, communicating with cybercriminals could expose users to more security and privacy risks.
