FlyBox Ransomware

By GoldSparrow in Ransomware

FlyBox Ransomware is a newly spotted data-locking Trojan that goes after regular users online. File-lockers, like the FlyBox Ransomware, can be very profitable for their creators. Data-encrypting Trojans would compromise your PC, use an encryption algorithm to lock your files, and blackmail you into paying a ransom fee.

Propagation and Encryption

The FlyBox Ransomware is a data-locker that targets a wide variety of filetypes - .doc, .docx, .pdf, .txt, .xlsx, .xls, .pptx, .ppt, .db, .rar, .zip, .jpeg, .jpg, .svg, .png, .gif, .webm, .mov, .mp4, .wav, .mp3, .midi, .mid, .aac and many others. When the FlyBox Ransomware encrypts a file, it will make sure to mark it with a new extension. The FlyBox Ransomware appends a ‘.FlyBox’ extension to the names of the encrypted files. This means that a file, which you had named ‘butter-cake.txt’ will be renamed to 'butter-cake.txt.FlyBox' after the encryption algorithm has been completed. The creators of the FlyBox Ransomware may be using mass spam emails, bogus social media pages, malicious advertisements, torrent trackers, fake software updates, and other distribution techniques to propagate this Trojan.

The Ransom Note

When the FlyBox Ransomware is done encrypting your data, it will drop a ransom note on your computer. The file containing the ransom message of the attackers is named 'HOW TO DECRYPT YOUR FILES.txt.' According to the ransom note, the FlyBox Ransomware has used the AES-256 and RSA-2048 encryption algorithms to lock the user's data. The attackers demand to be paid $80 in Bitcoin as a ransom fee. The authors of the FlyBox Ransomware demand to be paid within 72 hours of the attack taking place. According to their claims, users who fail to meet the deadline will not be able to recover their files. As a means of communication, the attackers offer an email address – ‘mykeyhelp@protonmail.com.'

There is not much point in cooperating with cybercriminals. Instead of contacting the attackers, you should consider removing the FlyBox Ransomware with the help of a reputable, up-to-date anti-virus software solution.
