Fileslock Ransomware

A new threatening variant belonging to the Medusalocker Ransomware family has been identified by infosec researchers. Tracked as the Fileslock Ransomware, the threat is capable of causing serious damage to compromised computers. It is capable of affecting numerous file types and rendering them completely unusable via a strong encryption algorithm.

Whenever the Fileslock Ransomware locks a file, it also marks it by modifying that file's original name. Users will notice that nearly all of their files now have '.fileslock' added as a file extension. The threat also will create a new file on the system named 'HOW_TO_RECOVER_DATA.html.' It carries the instructions from the hackers.

Ransom Note's Details

Opening the ransom note file reveals a lengthy message from the attackers. Apparently, in addition to the file encryption, sensitive data has been collected from compromised devices and is now stored on a remote server. The cybercriminals threaten to release the information to the public or sell it to interested third parties if the victims refuse to pay the demanded ransom.

The note also reveals that affected users are allowed to send up to 3 locked files that will supposedly be decrypted for free. The only mentioned requirement is for the files do not have any important data inside them. To reach the attackers, users are directed towards visiting a dedicated website hosted on the .onion network. As an alternative, the note also mentions two email addresses - 'fuc_ktheworld1448@outlook.com' and 'fucktheworld1448@cock.li.'
