Fgui Ransomware

The Fgui Ransomware is another threat created as a STOP/Djvu variant. Its behavior and characteristic are mostly identical to those other threats of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family, with the most distinguishing feature of the malware being the extension it uses to mark the victim's files. Indeed, whenever the threat encrypts a file, it appends '.fgui' to that file's original name.

The ultimate goal of the attackers is to encrypt the vast majority of the data stored on the compromised devices and then extort the victims for money. Typically, the ransomware threat utilizes a sufficiently strong encryption algorithm ensuring that the locked files will not be recoverable without assistance from the hackers. The cybercriminals behind the Fgui Ransomware leave their victims with a set of instructions delivered as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Details

If the message in the file can be trusted, the hackers demand to be paid the sum of $980. In exchange, they promise to send back a decryption tool and the necessary key for the restoration of the victim's data. The note also mentions that affected users can effectively cut the size of the ransom in half to $490 if they establish contact with the attackers within 72 hours of the Fgui Ransomware infection.

The note mentions that there are two email addresses that can be used as communication channels. The primary address is 'support@sysmail.ch.' The other email - 'helprestoremanager@airmail.cc' is a reserve one that should be used only if users receive no response after contacting the other one. Victims also are told that they can attach a single chosen encrypted file to their email. Upon receiving it, the hackers will unlock the file for free.
