Threat Database Ransomware Fdcv Ransomware

Fdcv Ransomware

Cybercriminals are using another ransomware threat to lock the data of their victims. Named the Fdcv Ransomware, and been a variant of the STOP/Djvu Ransomware, the threat is capable of encrypting a vast number of file types, leaving them completely unusable. Affected users will find themselves no longer being able to access their private or business-related files, including documents, archives, databases and more.

The threat uses the '.fdcv' file extension to mark the files it processes. For example, a document named 'File1.doc' will afterward have its name changed to 'File1.doc.fdcv.' The malware also will create a new text file on the victim's device. The file will likely be named '_readme.txt' and will contain a ransom note with instructions from the hackers.

Ransom Note's Details

The ransom-demanding message informs Fdcv Ransomware's victims that they will need to pay a ransom of $980. In exchange, the attackers will supposedly provide them with a software tool and the necessary decryption keys. The note mentions that affected users who message the hackers within the first 72 hours will receive preferential terms by having to pay just 50% of the initial ransom.

According to the note, two email addresses may be used as a way to contact the cybercriminals. The main address is 'admin@helpdata.top,' while 'supportsys@airmail.cc' is described as being a reserve email. Victims of the Fdcv Ransomware are allowed to attach one locked file to their message. Apparently, the hackers will then decrypt the chosen file for free, but only if it doesn't contain any important information.
