Eucy Ransomware

The Eucy Ransomware is an injurious ransomware threat that infosec researchers have classified as part of the extremely prolific STOP/Djvu malware family. Users should always use caution and keep their computers as protected as possible because more and more ransomware threats are being unleashed in the wild.

Although Eucy has few characteristics that distinguish it from other variants of the STOP/Djvu family, that doesn't make it any less threatening. Its invasive capabilities allow it to scan the compromised computer systems and then engage an encryption routine that will see nearly all of the stored files being locked with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm. Victims will notice that nearly all of their documents, photos, archives, databases, etc., now carry the unfamiliar file extension '.eucy.' In addition, a text file named '_readme.txt will be dropped on the system. The purpose of this file is to contain a ransom note with instructions from the attackers.

Eucy Ransomware's Demands

Reading the note reveals that the attackers demand to be paid a ransom of exactly $980. In exchange for receiving the money, they assure their victims that a decryptor tool and the necessary decryption tool will shortly be provided to them. If the note can be believed, the attackers also offer to drop the price by 50% to $490 if victims establish communication in the first 72 hours of the ransomware infection.

The note mentions two email addresses that can act as communication channels - 'estorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch.' Additionally, the hackers also leave a Telegram account at '@datarestore.' Victims are offered to send a single locked file that will apparently be decrypted for free.
