Estimatorone.xyz is an untrustworthy website; therefore, users should be careful trusting the messages shown by it. Indeed, when cybersecurity experts examined the page, they found it running several online tactics that utilize fake security alerts and warnings. Two of the confirmed tricks were variations of 'Your PC is infected with 5 viruses' and 'Your Windows is infected with Viruses.' Users should keep in mind that the hoaxes they encounter on the site could differ, as many rogue pages modify their behavior based on visitors' IP addresses and geolocation.
The 'Your PC is infected with 5 viruses' usually displays several pop-up windows with fake security alerts and even the results of a supposed threat scan that has detected multiple, threatening malware on the user's device. All of the presented information should be regarded as completely fabricated. After all, no website is capable of performing threat scans on its own. To appear more legitimate, the false messages are usually presented as if coming from a reputable company. In this case, the fraudsters exploit the name and brand of McAfee Corp. As for the 'Your Windows is infected with Viruses' tactic, it also shows fake security scares but this time presented as a Windows notification.
Users will be directed into following the instructions of the fraudsters under the pretense that doing so will help them resolve the supposed issues. The con artists could try to convince their victims to buy a subscription to a legitimate product in an attempt to earn monetary gains via illegitimate commission fees. Alternatively, users could be pushed towards installing an intrusive PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) presented under the guise of a security application. PUPs are known for possessing adware, browser hijacker, and even data-collecting capabilities.
