Eskvideo.ru tries to entice its visitors with promises of winning a gift card worth $50. While the offer may sound like a good deal, it is, in fact, nothing more than a scheme. Indeed, the only goal of the Eksvideo.ru page is to get visitors to subscribe to its push notification without fully realizing it.
This is a popular scheme often encountered on dubious and untrustworthy websites. These pages exploit the legitimate push notification services to deliver unwanted and annoying advertisements to users. The gift card scenario is just one of many - users also may be presented with instructions to prove they are not robots by completing a fake CAPTCHA check. Other sites may promise access to additional content, videos or files available for download. No matter what the particular scenario is, the manipulative messages will almost always direct users to click the displayed 'Allow' button.
Once they have received the needed browser permissions, Eksvideo.ru and other hoax pages of this type will proceed to generate numerous questionable advertisements. The advertisements are most likely going to lead to more suspicious destinations, such as phishing schemes, fake giveaways, etc. They also could promote intrusive PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) by claiming that offered products are legitimately useful applications.
