Eewt Ransomware

The Eewt Ransomware is another variant created by using the infamous STOP/Djvu strain as a basis. Even though it is basically identical to the other malware members of this family, the Eewt Ransomware's destructive capacity should not be underestimated. If the threat is successfully deployed and executed on the targeted computers, it will start encrypting the data stored there with a strong cryptographic algorithm. As a result, users will no longer be able to access any of their documents, photos, archives, databases, PDFs, audio and video files and many other file types.

Following the typical STOP/Djvu behavior, the threat will mark each locked file by attaching a new file extension to that file's original name. In this case, users will notice that the encrypted files now carry the '.eewt' extension. A ransom note will be dropped on the breached systems as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

According to the ransom-demanding message, the hackers are willing to provide decryption software to their victims, but only after being paid a ransom of $980. The initial sum could be cut in half if victims initiate communication within the first 72 hours. The attackers leave two email addresses that could be used for this purpose - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc.' However, it is strongly recommended for victims of malware attacks to avoid contacting the threat actors, as doing so could lead to further security or privacy issues.
