Threat Database Ransomware Eemv Ransomware

Eemv Ransomware

The Eemv Ransomware is a threatening variant belonging to the STOP/Djvu malware family. Although the threat follows the typical behavior of this hurtful ransomware strain, it still retains the capacity to cause significant damage to the data stored on the infected systems. When executed on the targeted device, the Eemv Ransomware will activate an encryption routine that will leave the victim's documents, archives, databases, and many other file types in a completely unusable state. The attackers will exploit the locked files as leverage to extort money from their victims.

Like the vast majority of ransomware threats, Eemv also marks the files it encrypts by attaching a new file extension - '.eemv' to their original names. Afterward, a text file carrying a ransom note with instructions will be dropped onto the victim's device. The message will be contained inside a newly created text file named '_readme.txt.'

The text of the message is mostly identical to the ransom-demanding notes of other STOP/Djvu variants. Eemv also tries to force victims to pay a ransom of $980, or $490 if they contact the attackers within the first 72 hours following the breach. The operators of the Eemb Ransomware also offer to unlock one file for free, but only if it doesn't contain any important information. According to the note, the cybercriminals can be reached via two email addresses - 'restorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch,' as well as a Telegram account at '@datarestore.' Of course, any communication with cybercriminals should be regarded as inherently risky and should be avoided if possible.
