Threat Database Ransomware Eebn Ransomware

Eebn Ransomware

The Eebn Ransomware is a malware threat used specifically to lock the data on breached devices. Ransomware threats are designed to run an encryption routine affecting a wide range of different file types. Victims will find that important files, such as documents, images, photos, archives, databases, and many others are no longer accessible or usable. The cryptographic algorithm utilized by the threat is strong enough to prevent affected users from restoring their files on their own. It should be noted that the Eebn Ransomware is a variant belonging to the STOP/Djvu malware family.

As part of its actions, the malware also will mark each locked file by attaching a new file extension to the original name. In this case, victims will notice that all of the impacted files now carry the '.eebn' extension. Another change caused by Eebn will be the appearance of an unfamiliar text file named '_readme.txt.' Inside this file, victims will find a ransom note with instructions from the threat actors.

According to the note, the operators of Eebn are trying to extort a ransom of $980 from their victims. However, the message mentions that all affected users who initiate communication within the first 72 hours of the infection will be offered to pay only half of the original ransom amount. All victims can supposedly send a single locked file to either 'support@bestyourmail.ch' or the 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc' email addresses to be unlocked for free, as a demonstration. It is vital to keep in mind that any communication with cybercriminals should be regarded as extremely risky.
