Easy Search Tool

The Easy Search Tool is a browser hijacker application that will cause unwanted redirects to a promoted page. These programs are almost never spread via normal distribution channels. After all, their operators know that users are extremely unlikely to download and install them willingly. That is why PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) such as the Easy Search Tool are mostly found as additional items installed by dubious software bundles or hiding inside fake installers, pretending to be for legitimate products.

The main functionality of the Easy Search Tool involves taking control over the user's Web browsers. Important settings, such as the homepage, new tab page, and default search engine will now start opening an unfamiliar address associated with the PUP. Indeed, users will notice that launching the affected browser, trying to open a new tab, or starting a search in the URL bar will lead to the easysearchtool.com page. The address belongs to a fake search engine that lacks the ability to produce genuine results. The user's search will instead be redirected through Bing, Yahoo, or other search engines.

Another common characteristic observed in PUPs is their ability to collect and transmit data. The unwanted applications may be spying on the browsing activities performed on the system, as well as collecting numerous device details. In some cases, the invasive application could even try to extract autofill data from the affected browsers. Such information could contain the user's banking data, payment details, or debit/credit card numbers.
