DUSK 2 Ransomware

DUSK 2 Ransomware Description

At its core, the Dusk 2 Ransomware still operates as a typical threat of this type - it aims to infiltrate the targeted computer, encrypt nearly all of the user's data, and demand a ransom in exchange for the potential restoration of the files. The Dusk 2 Ransomware is a new, updated version of the previously detected threat, the Dusk Ransomware.

Users infected with the DUSK 2 Ransomware will have all of their files becoming unusable effectively, and their names changed to include '.DUSK' as a new extension. A ransom note with instructions will be dropped in every folder containing encrypted data as text files named 'README.txt.' The compromised system's default desktop background will also be changed with an image displaying a brief message telling the affected users to open the 'README.txt' files.

The hackers behind the DUSK 2 Ransomware want to be paid exactly $80 if they are to provide the victim with the necessary key and decryptor tool. The money must be sent in Bitcoin. The exchange rate of this cryptocurrency is prone to wild swings, but at the current prices, $80 are worth around 0.0051 BTC (Bitcoin). Victims of DUSK 2 also are instructed to send their unique ID that can be found at the end of the ransom note as an email message to the 'lasvegasincel@cock.li' address. If 48 hours pass without receiving an answer from the hackers, affected users are supposed to message the backup email address at 'duskeer@protonmail.com.' Up to two less than 2 MB files in total size can be attached to the emails for free decryption.
