Threat Database Browser Hijackers Drop Browser Extension

Drop Browser Extension

The Drop browser extension is an intrusive PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). The application is being distributed by questionable ads displayed by dubious websites. Users who are lured into installing the extension will soon feel its presence, due to the huge number of advertisements they encounter while browsing. Indeed, the main functionality of the Drop browser extension appears to be that of adware generating annoying and unwanted advertisements.

While the application is present on the device, users are likely to notice their browsers opening new tabs with unfamiliar pages. The delivered advertisements are likely to be for rogue websites (fake giveaways, phishing schemes, technical support frauds), shady online platforms, adult pages, etc. When interacting with the advertisements delivered by such sources, users also may trigger redirects that will lead them to more suspicious destinations.

Another problem when it comes to PUPs is that these applications are frequently equipped with data-tracking functionalities. They could be monitoring the user's browsing activities, collecting device details, and, in some cases, even accessing and extracting private details from browsers' autofill data.
