Displayforreviews.com, despite its name, doesn't have even a remote connection to anything related to reviews. Instead, users that have had the misfortune of landing on the site, will be encountering another page propagating a popular browser-based tactic. There are countless sites operating in a similar way, and they all try to take advantage of the legitimate push notification's browser feature. These untrustworthy pages will display misleading messages, in an attempt to trick users into clicking the displayed 'Allow' button and unknowingly being subscribed to the site's notifications.
These hoax websites utilize various clickbait scenarios designed to mask their true intentions. One of the most commonly seen involves showing visitors an image of a robot and a message similar to:
'Click Allow if you are not a robot'
The implication is clear - to access the supposed content of the site, users are asked to pass a CAPTCHA check. However, in reality, pressing 'Allow' has a completely different function and there is no additional content on the page.
Instead, users will grant important browser permissions to Displayforreviews.com, which the page will start abusing to deliver unwanted advertisements to the system. The shown notification could lead to other unsafe destinations. Users also may be presented with fake security alerts or threat scans that have seemingly detected harmful malware threats on the device. The con artists rely on such tactics to distribute invasive adware, browser hijackers and other PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs). Alternatively, they may be trying to earn illegitimate commission fees by promoting legitimate applications through questionable methods.
