Defender-pro-2022.xyz is a rogue website that shows its visitors various misleading and false messages. A common characteristic of these untrustworthy pages is that they may modify their behavior based on the incoming IP addresses and users' geolocations. When examined by cybersecurity researchers, Defender-pro-2022.xyz was observed running a version of the 'Your PC is infected with 5 viruses!' scam.

As part of its scheme, the page will open several pop-up windows containing fabricated security warnings. Defender-pro-2022.xyz will even pretend that a threat scan it had run has managed to uncover multiple, serious malware threats on the user's device. However, both the scan itself and the supposed results are fake, as no website is capable of such functionality on its own.

Another common characteristic of these rogue websites is the use of the name and brand of a reputable computer security company to lead visitors into believing that the shown security alerts are coming from a reliable source. In this case, Defender-pro-2022.xyz's fake scanner is presented as belonging to the McAfee company, even though McAfee Corp is in no way connected to it.

If users follow the displayed instructions and click on the 'Start McAfee' button, they would be redirected to a legitimate McAfee website containing an affiliates ID in its URL. The goal of the con artists is clear - they rely on fake scares to push users into buying a subscription, while they earn commission fees based on each completed transaction.
