Daam Mobile Malware

A sophisticated Android malware named 'Daam' has been discovered in the wild. The mobile threat has a wide range of threatening capabilities that include the ability to bypass anti-malware solutions, extract sensitive and financial data, and even deploy ransomware to encrypt all files on the compromised smartphone devices.

Researchers have issued a report on this new threat, warning that it poses a significant risk to even high-end Android devices. The malware is believed to be using sideloaded apps as an infection vector to infiltrate Android phones. According to the researchers, they have managed to identify so far three APK files associated with the Daam Mobile Malware - one for the Psiphon VPN application, the Boulders mobile game and the Currency Pro converter application.

The Daam Android Malware Collects Data before Encrypting It

The Daam malware is a highly sophisticated threat that poses a serious danger to its victims' data, security, and privacy. It is designed to collect various types of sensitive information from Android smartphones. Its data-stealing capabilities include ongoing phone and VoIP calls, any files stored on the device, and user contacts. This malware can even access newly added contacts on the breached device in addition to the already existing ones.

All of the data harvested by Daam is sent back to a Command-and-Control (C&C) server under the control of the threat actors behind this malware campaign. The threatening applications used to distribute the malware request access to sensitive device permissions after installation, granting almost complete access to the victim's Android smartphone.

As if having your data misappropriated wasn't bad enough, the Daam malware also employs the AES encryption algorithm to encrypt all the files on infected Android smartphones. All impacted files will be rendered completely unusable. Furthermore, the threat can change the device password or PIN to lock users out from accessing their phones entirely.
