Threat Database Ransomware D3adcrypt Ransomware

D3adcrypt Ransomware

The D3adCrypt Ransomware is a disruptive malware threat that is being used by cybercriminals to lock the data of their victims. Like a typical ransomware, the threat utilizes a strong encrypting algorithm that after processing the targeted file types will render them inaccessible and unusable completely. The threat actor will then try to extort the affected users for money in exchange for providing them with the necessary decryption tool and key for the restoration of the files.

As part of its intrusive actions, the D3adCrypt Ransomware also will modify the names of the locked files. More specifically, the threat will mark each locked file by appending '.d3ad' as a new extension. When all file types targeted by the threat have been encrypted, a ransom note with instructions will be created on the system. This ransom-demanding message will take the form of a text file named 'd3ad_Help.txt.'

Ransom Note's Overview

The note left the D3adCrypt Ransomware is extremely short and lacks many important details usually found in such messages. It fails to mention the amount of the ransom demanded by the hackers or if they are willing to demonstrate their ability to fully recover the encrypted data of the victims by unlocking a couple of files. Instead, the message simply tells the affected users that they will have to contact the attackers to receive additional instructions. Two email dresses are mentioned in the note - 'd3add@tutanota.com' and 'propersolot@gmail.com,' which acts as a backup.
