Companyfinder.xyz is a questionable program that is being spread through deceptive distribution tactics. As such, the application gets installed without the user's knowledge. This underhanded behavior classifies it as a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program). Typically, PUPs get packaged alongside freeware software products or programs downloaded from untrustworthy sources in a scheme known as bundling. 

PUPs are usually capable of performing various intrusive activities on the user's computer or device.  They can run an intrusive ad campaign that could see the device flooded with numerous advertising materials. In addition, the intruder application can take control over the installed Web browser and force them to open a promoted address. On Google Chrome specifically, Companyfinder also can affect other synced devices and exploit the 'managed by your organization' feature to limit the actions of the user.  

However, the most worrisome functionality often associated with PUPs, is that they may spy on the user's activities. All sorts of data can be accessed, stored in a file, and then transmitted to a remote server. CompanyFinder follows the same pattern as it obtains the user's browsing history and uploads it to the companyfinder.xyz website.

Keeping PUPs on your devices is not advised. Although these applications are not considered a direct threat, their presence is a security risk that should be addressed as soon as possible.
