Clean-your-pc.xyz is another manipulative website that relies on fake scares and false warnings to trick users into buying a subscription for a chosen product. In fact, the dubious page has been observed to carry out a variation of the 'Your PC is infected with 5 viruses' tactic. All pages running this particular scheme pretend as if their baseless security claims are backed by a reputable vendor, such as Norton or McAfee. Sometimes they even mix the branding, logos, and names of the two companies. What users should remember is that neither Norton nor McAfee have any connections to the con pages.
In this case, Clean-your-pc.xyz exploits the McAfee brand. It also opens a pop-up that pretends to be performing a malware scan of the user's device. No website is capable of such actions on its own so this is entirely fake. Not to mention that the supposed scan will always find 5 malware threats lurking on the device. Users will then be urged to click the displayed button and buy a subscription for the selected application to resolve the non-existent issues.
The operators of these con pages are most likely trying to earn illegitimate commission fees based on the number of purchases made through their deceptive pages. That is why users are strongly encouraged to never follow any of the instructions found on a random website, no matter how alarming or dire the presented claims may seem. Instead, calmly research the promoted application, if you are genuinely interested, and get it from an official source.
