The 'Clean Up Your Windows PC After Surfing the Web!' pop-ups are caused by a deceptive website dedicated to running a technical support scheme. Users who encounter these pop-ups should ignore them completely and in no way follow the displayed instructions.

The pop-ups pretend to belong to a 'Windows Security Recomention!' stating that users should clean their computers from any junk files that might have remained there after surfing the Web. To add a bit more legitimacy to their claims, the fraudsters pretend to offer users the installation of the legitimate McAfee security solution.

However, after the user clicks on the displayed 'START INSTANT CLEANUP' button, the scheme starts to show its true intentions. The new page will ask for a phone number, full name, and an email address to be provided. When all supposedly required information is entered, the hoax website will try to convince its visitors that to activate their subscription they will need to call the provided phone number - (833)522-5566, in this case.

The number is operated by the fraudsters and their goal is to take advantage of the unsuspecting users. The operator may ask to receive remote access to the user's computer. If successful, they could then extract sensitive information, plant a backdoor for further exploitation, or drop malware threats such as ransomware on the system. Users also may be asked to pay various bogus fees or provide additional personal information.
