Users who land on the Cleaningupdate.xyz website should be careful. The page is designed to run various online tactics. Which particular scheme is shown, may depend on several factors, such as the user's IP address and geolocation. When cybersecurity experts examined the page, they found it pushing versions of the 'Your PC is infected with 5 viruses!' and 'Your Windows 10 is infected with viruses' scams.
The first scheme involves showing visitors several fake security warnings presented as if coming from a reputable source, such as Norton or McAfee. The questionable site may even claim that a threat scan it has conducted, managed to identify numerous malware threats on the user's device. Of course, this is all fake, as no website can possess such functionality on its own. Equally as fake, are the supposed security alerts carrying the branding, logo, and design scheme of the actual McAfee company. In the other misleading scenario, Cleaningupdate.xyz may try to pass its completely fabricated messages as system notifications generated by Windows 10.
In addition, users may be asked to enable the site's push notification. Doing so will allow Cleaningupdate.xyz to exploit the legitimate push notifications browser feature to deliver questionable and unwanted advertisements to the device.
