Check-this.one is a deceptive page tasked with delivering questionable content to its visitors. The site also is running a popular browser-based tactic, where it tries to lure users into subscribing to its push notification services via manipulative and social-engineering tactics. Afterward, the site will abuse its browser permissions to run an intrusive advertising campaign.
The exact fake scenario employed by Check-this.one could vary. The site may pretend to be doing a CAPTCHA check for bots, claim that a video will become available, that users will be able to access additional content, that a file is now ready for download and others. Users may see messages similar to:
'Press Allow to verify that you are not a robot'
'Click Allow to watch the video'
'Download is ready.'
'Click Allow to start downloading'
All advertisements generated by such dubious sources should be approached with caution. By clicking on them users risk being taken to more suspicious websites, online betting platforms, fake giveaways, phishing pages, etc.
Landing on pages, such as Check-this.one may be caused by a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) that is lurking on your computer. PUPs can be responsible for generating unwanted ads, causing browser redirects, spying on the user's browsing activities and more. Removing them as soon as possible should be a priority.
