Threat Database Ransomware Ccps Ransomware

Ccps Ransomware

The Ccps Ransomware is a harmful threat, designed with invasive capabilities that allow it to lock nearly all of its victim's data. Files such as documents, databases, archived, PDFs, images, photos, audio and video files will all be rendered inaccessible via a strong encryption algorithm. To restore their access to the files, users will be extorted into paying a ransom to the attackers. It must be noted that despite Ccps being yet another variant from the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family, it is still extremely threatening.

Whenever the threat locks a file, it also will mark it via a new file extension. In this case, and the reason for the malware's name, the used extension is '.ccps.' After going through all the data on the breached device and encrypting all targeted file types, the Ccps Ransomware will deliver a note with instructions to the affected users. This message from the attackers will be inside a newly-created text file named '_readme.txt.'

Ransom Note's Details

The Ccps Ransomware's note is almost entirely identical to the ransom-demanding messages dropped by the other variants of this family. It starts by stating that the locked data is not lost and can be recovered if the users are willing to pay the attackers the demanded ransom. The price is set at $980 and, in exchange, the cybercriminals promise to send back a decryptor tool and the crucial decryption key. The note also mentions that if contact is established within 72 hours of the attack, the price of the ransom will be cut in half to $490. Of course, trusting people willing to distribute ransomware may not be the wises choice.
