Brosive.com is a fake search engine with a bold boast; this malicious website features the headline 'You Know You Want It.' While Brosive.com carries out the same scam as countless other bogus search engines (that is, delivering spam and advertisements instead of legitimate search results), it also carries out another scam, by asking visitors for their email address, which criminals can then use to send out spam email and to try to compromise the victim's email account. Brosive.com uses an unconventional design that is quite convincing; however, a close looks revealed that Brosive.com's layout has been cobbled by plagiarizing components of popular humor websites in order to give Brosive.com a more authentic look. At its core, Brosive.com is designed for nothing more than to generate advertising revenue by taking advantage of its visitors, who are forced to arrive at Brosive.com because of a dangerous browser hijacker infection. Numerous computer users have reported that their computers crash frequently and that their web browsers force them to visit Brosive.com repeatedly. This is a sign of a dangerous malware infection that should be dealt with by using a reliable anti-malware tool.

How Criminals Force You to Visit Brosive.com Repeatedly

Unlike other kinds of browser hijackers, the browser hijacker associated with Brosive.com is a systemic malware infection that fundamentally changes how your computer connects to the Internet. This means that, regardless of the web browser you use, you will find that you are taken to Brosive.com instead of to the websites you wish to view. These browser hijackers are not exclusive to Brosive.com. Usually, they also establish a connection with a remote server through which they receive instructions from criminals that created them. Periodically, a Trojan will download a list of bogus search engines which instructs the browser hijacker associated with Brosive.com on which websites it should use for its browser redirects. Brosive.com is only one of countless possible fake search engines associated with this scam. Malware associated with Brosive.com will often also include a rootkit component, often the TDSS rootkit or a variant of the ZeroAccess Trojan and rootkit. This rootkit component can hide the presence of these Trojans, making them undetectable with conventional anti-malware programs. In these cases, ESG security researchers advise using a specialized tool for rootkit removal before attempting to remove the Brosive.com-related browser hijacker from the infected computer system.
