Bbzz Ransomware

After analyzing the Bbzz Ransomware threat, cybersecurity researchers discovered that it is not an entirely unique malware. In fact, the threat has been classified as another variant that cybercriminals have created from the prolific STOP/Djvu family. Naturally, this means that Bbzz Ransomware lacks any major characteristics that distinguish it from the numerous other STOP/Djvu variants. However, this in no way means that the threat is any less threatening. Any systems impacted by Bbzz will be subjected to data encryption that will leave the vast majority of files on them in an unusable state.

Like a typical STOP/Dvju malware, the Bbzz Ransomware also uses a specific file extension to mark each locked file. Indeed, victims will notice that most of their files now have '.bbzz' added to their original names. Another change caused by the threat will be the appearance of an unfamiliar text file named '_readme.txt.' Opening the file will reveal a ransom note with instructions from the cybercriminals responsible for spreading Bbzz Ransomware.

According to the message, users who wish to receive a decryption software tool and the necessary decryption keys that could restore the locked data will need to pay the sum of $980 to the attackers. There also is an option to reduce that initial amount by 50%. If the ransom note can be believed, victims that contact the hackers at any point during the first 12 hours will need to pay only $490. Two email addresses can be used for that purpose - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'supportsys@airmail.cc.' As part of their message, affected users can also attach a single encrypted file. In turn, the attackers promise to unlock the received file for free.
