Bbbe Ransomware

Cybercriminals are unleashing more powerful ransomware threats created as variants of the STOP/Djvu malware family. One such threat detected by infosec researchers is the Bbbe Ransomware. Its behavior follows the typical pattern of the threatening STOP/Djvu family, and the goal of the attackers remains the extortion of money from their victims.

The strong cryptographic algorithm used by the Bbbe Ransomware ensures that the files it locks cannot be recovered without the cybercriminals' assistance. Victims will be left unable to access most of their important personal or business-related data, such as documents, PDFs, archives, databases and numerous other files. Each encrypted file will have '.bbbe' appended to its name. Finally, the threat will create a text file named '_readme.txt' to contain its ransom note.

Bbbe Ransomware's Demands

The ransom-demanding message states that to receive the decryption tool and key from the attackers, affected users will need to pay a ransom of exactly $980. However, that sum could potentially be reduced in half to $490. The only listed requirement is for the victim to reach out and contact the hackers at any point during the first 72 hours after the ransomware attack.

The note also mentions that a single encrypted file can be sent to be unlocked for free. Users are provided with two emails addresses controlled by the attackers. The primary one is 'support@sysmail.ch' while 'helprestoremanager@airmail.cc' acts as a reserve address.
