Backrocklondon.com is a misleading website designed with the singular purpose of propagating a popular browser-based tactic. Countless websites virtually identical to Backrocklondon.com in behavior have already been put up on the Internet and more are popping into existence every day. The goal is to trick the user into subscribing to the push notification services of the respective scam websites by employing manipulative social engineering tactics.
The most popular scenario is for the tricky website to pretend to be conducting a captcha check for bots. Users will be told that they will have to click the 'Allow' button to prove that they are not, in fact, robots. Backrocklondon.com has, however, chosen a different angle. The website promises its visitors access to adult content but they will first have to prove they are 18+ by clicking the 'Allow' button. A variation of the message displayed by the website can be:
'If you are 18+ click Allow.'
'To access, click Allow.'
Clicking the button will result in Backrocklondon.com receiving the browser permissions it requires. The website will then be able to start generating monetary gains for its creators through the delivery of unwanted and intrusive ads on the affected device. Closing the browser at this point will have no effect on the display ads.
Furthermore, users who click on any of the delivered ad risk exposing their device to additional security risks. They could be taken through several redirects that land on a dubious or outright compromised third-party website ultimately. Offers for suspicious adult content, online casinos, barely-functional PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), or landing pages for tech support scams are among the usual destinations.
To stop the activity of Backrocklondon.com and return your device to normal, users will have to navigate to either the 'Notifications' or 'Permissions' section of the Setting menu, depending on their web browser. Once there, remove all of the permissions granted to the website.
