ASyncWake

By GoldSparrow in Mac Malware, Trojans

ASyncWake (Trojan.MacOS.AsyncWake) is the name of a Mac-tailored Trojan designed to perform all sorts of malicious operations within its host system. The Trojan is known to bring additional malware, harvest personal data, and install backdoor tools, to name a few. ASyncWave can land on your Mac via malware-embedded email attachment, torrent downloads, peer-to-peer networks, and malvertising links.

A Trojan With Added Malware

In addition to its typical info-stealing features, ASyncWake appears to be capable of planting additional malware modules once it has infiltrated a MacOS machine. Those modules can range from worms and rootkits to ransomware at the worst. Any secondary infection, however, requires successful ASyncWake infiltration. The latter could quickly become a reality for Mac users who have become negligent in managing their spam email and web browsing activity. The Web is full of crooks who apply a wide range of social engineering techniques to redirect unsuspecting computer users to shady ads and sites. The end purpose of such redirects is either pay-per-view revenue or malware infection.

Symptoms and Remediation

An ASyncWake Trojan infection may have a severe impact on your Mac's processing power. What is more, the Trojan even blocks your AV solution to intercept any detection attempts early on. The next logical step may deal with bogus pop-ups, annoying banners, and unexpected browser redirects to places you don't remember visiting before. To avoid getting any of those symptoms, make sure to tread carefully in your mailbox, and stay away from torrent networks that spread pirated content. If you see an email or a banner with a warning full of stylistic or grammar errors, it is probably fake, and you should leave it untouched. The same goes for downloading software — always use official outlets to get the program you need.

Removing an Active Infection

That said, no one is immune to a malware infection regardless of the measures taken. In the event of a successful ASyncWake Trojan attack, you should swiftly limit the prospective damage it could inflict on your system. You can manually deal with ASyncWake by performing several operations, including, but not limited to, deleting the Trojan from Applications and resetting your web browsers to their default settings. However, if that approach doesn't do the job, you may need to turn to a reputable anti-malware solution instead. The latter will remove ASyncWake for you.
