Applecomsupport.com is a deceptive website designed to imitate the legitimate Apple support service. It is virtually identical in functionality to numerous other pages created with the same nefarious purpose such as applesupportofficial.com. It must be noted that users rarely land on such websites willingly and are instead taking there through forced redirects caused by adware, browser hijackers, or other PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) that have managed to stealthily install themselves onto the computer.
Upon landing on Applecomsupport.com, users will be presented with a pop-up message that will try to scare them into contacting the scammers who are pretending to be 'Apple Support.' In the misleading message, the website claims that the user was taken to it due to an adware virus downloaded from an untrusted source. The unsubstantiated claims continue by claiming that other security issues might also be present due to malware or spyware downloads.
Closing the window loads a new page that is similar in appearance to the official Apple support. The page will contain a fake support number and a chat window through which the user could contact the supposed 'Apple Support.' Looking at the very bottom of the page, however, reveals the small print that exposes the Applecomsupport.com scheme clearly. The disclaimer disassociates the website from Apple and rightfully identifies the site as a third-party service provider.
Apple users are often targeted by the tactic carried out by Apllecomsupport.com. One general rule that users should never forget is that no website can conduct a scan of their computers or devices on its own. Any claims for detected malware or virus threats should then be disregarded completely.
