'Android.Fakeyouwon' Malware Description
The 'Android.Fakeyouwon' Malware is a piece of adware that has been found on the Google Play Store posing as a beta version for the popular Telegram messaging service. Another name given to this adware is MobonoGram or MobonoGram 2019, and its sole purpose is to serve unwanted ads to the user of the compromised device. Unfortunately, the Google Play Store continues to be unable to stop bogus apps like this one from appearing on there, and this may often expose the non-suspecting user to potentially harmful software. While the 'Android.Fakeyouwon' Malware is unable to cause long-term damage to Android devices, it may certainly make it more difficult to access the device's features and other apps.
Another Adware Found on the Google Play Store
Once initialized, the fake MobonoGram app would provide the user with access to an app with basic messaging abilities – however, it is not affiliated with Telegram in any way. What the software's developer hides from the users, however, is that the 'Android.Fakeyouwon' Malware would initialize several services in the background and use them to retrieve and open addresses packed with pornographic, gambling, and gaming advertisements.
Researchers analyzing a sample of the 'Android.Fakeyouwon' Malware noticed that the addresses to browse were fetched from various command & control servers, and the infected device would receive different addresses depending on its language and region configuration. The malware also gains persistence to ensure that it will continue to run if the device is rebooted.
Fake 'MobonoGram' is Down from the Play Store, but It may be Found Elsewhere
While the malicious MobonoGram app has been taken down from the Google Play Store, it is very likely that there are copies of it circulating the Web – remember that you should not download suspicious apps from 3rd-party services, as doing this is a quick way to introduce harmful software to your device.
