Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecard
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are assessment reports for different malware threats which have been collected and analyzed by our research team. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards evaluate and rank threats using several metrics including real-world and potential risk factors, trends, frequency, prevalence, and persistence. EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards are updated regularly based on our research data and metrics and are useful for a wide range of computer users, from end users seeking solutions to remove malware from their systems to security experts analyzing threats.
EnigmaSoft Threat Scorecards display a variety of useful information, including:
Ranking: The ranking of a particular threat in EnigmaSoft’s Threat Database.
Severity Level: The determined severity level of an object, represented numerically, based on our risk modeling process and research, as explained in our Threat Assessment Criteria.
Infected Computers: The number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular threat detected on infected computers as reported by SpyHunter.

The '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware is one of the many variants of the Locky Ransomware Trojan that is being used in attacks against computer users currently. The '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware is being distributed in a spam email campaign that uses fake emails from the Internet Service Providers (ISP) claiming that the victim's computer is being used to send out spam email messages. Computer users, tricked by the message, may open an attached ZIP file that results in the the '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware. The '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware is a Locky variant that changes the files affected by the attack so that their extension becomes '.aesir.' This is a continuation of a Locky variant family that references the Norse Mythology (a previous variant of the '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware used the extension '.thor.'
The Vicious Attack of the '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware
The '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware encrypts the victim's files during the attack. Unfortunately, it may not be possible to decrypt the files that have been encrypted by the '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware currently. The '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware encrypts the victim's files to demand a ransom payment. Corrupted emails used to distribute the '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware use the subject line 'Spam mailout' and will include an attached ZIP file with a name such as 'logs_[target_name].zip.' When this file is opened, a corrupted JavaScript (a file in JS format) executes the '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware attack on the victim's computer. To do this, this corrupted script downloads a corrupted DLL file that carries out the attack.
Once installed, the '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware searches for certain file types, replacing their names with a series of random characters and then the '.aesir' extension. The '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware's naming scheme follows the pattern below:
[first_8_hexadecimal_chars_of_id]-[next_4_hexadecimal_chars_of_id]-[next_4_hexadecimal_chars_of_id]-[4_hexadecimal_chars]-[12_hexadecimal_chars].aesir
In its attack, the '.aesir File Extension' Ransomware targets the following file types during its attack:
