Threat Database Mac Malware Advanced Network Care

Advanced Network Care

Advanced Network Care is a software solution offered by IObit with the claims that it can "scan and fix your Mac Network Problems." Advanced Network Care’s website also states the application can "optimize your Mac network speed" and "Speed up your wi-fi network." Those claims are unsubstantiated and the true purpose of Advanced Network Care is to sell licenses.

IObit also offers MacBooster which is another piece of software which is supposed to optimise the performance of Mac machines, but actually just displays fake scan results trying to make the user purchase a license. Both MacBoster and Advanced Network Care are detected and classified as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs). The application is distributed through IObit’s MacBooster website but it can also be found in freeware bundles which is very common for PUAs.

Once installed, Advanced Network Care will create a schedule and launch scans at predetermined intervals. During the scans the performance of the device may be severely impacted. At the end of the scan, Advanced Network Care is likely to display a bunch of errors and try to push the full version to fix them. This pattern is typical for this type of rogue optimizer software. It is important to note that IObit’s products aren’t malware. They don’t seem to damage devices or severely compromise security. Nevertheless, the use of Advanced Network Care is not likely to bring any benefits to the performance of anyone’s network and it’s useless at best.
