Adoq Ransomware

The Adoq Ransomware is a variant of the prolific STOP/Djvu family. Threats of this type are used by attackers to lock the data of their victims. Numerous file types stored on the breached devices - documents, PDfs, archives, databases, images, photos, etc., will be encrypted with a military-grade cryptographic algorithm. All impacted files will no longer be accessible.

Following the established STOP/Djvu behavior, the Adoq Ransomware also will modify the names of the targeted files by appending a new file extension to them. In this case, the threat adds '.adoq.' In addition, a text file named '_readme.txt' will be created on the infected systems. The file contains a ransom note, detailing the instructions of the threat actors.

According to the message, the cybercriminals are trying to extort $980 from their victims. In exchange for the money, they promise to provide a decrypter tool and the necessary decryption code. Victims who contact the hackers within the first 72 hours will supposedly receive a 50% discount on the ransom amount. The ransom note mentions the 'restorealldata@firemail.cc' and 'gorentos@bitmessage.ch' email addresses, as well as a Telegram account at '@datarestore,' as potential ways to reach the cybercriminals. Victims of malware attacks should be aware that any communication with threat actors is extremely risky and could result in additional privacy and security concerns.
