ActivityTonic.com is another dubious website, whose sole purpose for existing is to proliferate a browser-based tactic. By showing misleading alerts or warning messages, it tries to lure all visitors into subscribing to its push notification services. The site will then be able to generate monetary gains for its creators by running an intrusive advertising campaign through the affected browser.
These pages have exploded in numbers and more and more are being put on the Internet every day. They all operate identically and rely on several bait scenarios. The most widespread by far is to pretend to be doing a CAPTCHA check for bots. Another, and one that ActivityTonic.com has been observed to display, involves showing a video window accompanied by a variation of the following message:
'To access the video, click 'Allow'
The advertisements delivered by ActivityTonic.com should not be trusted. They could display similar clickbait messages and then redirect the user to suspicious websites. The destinations could include phishing pages, domains promoting various PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs), fake giveaways, etc.
Keep in mind that if your browser shows ActivityTonic.com or other similar hoax pages, it could be a sign that a PUP has already found its way inside your computer or device. It is recommended to run a thorough scan with a reputable security solution as soon as possible.
