Aawt Ransomware

When infosec researchers analyzed the Aawt Ransomware threat, they discovered that it is yet another variant belonging to the STOP/Djvu Ransomware family. Even though the threat lacks any apparent improvements over the rest of its malware variants, its capacity to cause damage to the breached devices is still as potent.

Indeed, the Aawt Rabsomware's victims will have their data encrypted with an uncrackable cryptographic algorithm. The threat will target documents, photos, images, archives, PDFs, databases, audio and video files and many other file types. All locked documents also will have '.Aawt' appended to their original names. A ransom note with instructions will be delivered to the infected systems as a text file named '_readme.txt.'

The ransom-demanding message left by the Aawt Ransomware follows the typical pattern observed in other STOP/Djvu variants. It states that the encrypted files can be restored, but victims will have to first pay a ransom of $980 to the cybercriminals, to supposedly receive the necessary decryption keys. If contact is established within the first 72 hours, the attackers 'promise' to lower the price of the ransom by 50%. The note mentions two email addresses - 'support@bestyourmail.ch' and 'datarestorehelp@airmail.cc,' and instructs victims to message them.
